Top 10 wine producing countries

food & drinks

Approximately 10.000 years ago our Chinese and Georgian ancestors discovered the beneficial effects of the vitis vinifera or wine grape.  Collect the grapes, let them ferment, drink the result and you’ll be happy. No wonder that what we now call wine is of all ages.  Over time grapes were grown almost everywhere between the 30th and 50th latitude. So which country produces the most wine in hectolitres (hl)? Which are the world’s biggest wine producing countries?

  1. Portugal – 7.340.000 hl
